Seed pods (Day 126)

Img_0075_copy
Almost all of today was wet, cold and not quite pleasant. Most of those times, I spent it staying dry indoors at work. But for a brief moment, the sun appeared so I took a break from work and went for a brisk walk outside. Not quite an appealing photo but I took a chance with these dry seed pods hanging from a tree. I didn't get too close because I didn't want to step on the ones that had fallen on the ground...making a huge sticky mess on my shoes and myself!

I wonder if the sun and blue skies will make its appearance tomorrow instead of the rain? *crosses fingers and toes*

Kodomo no Hi (Day 125)

Every May 5, it is Children's Day or Kodomo-no-hi (originally known as Boy's Day)...it is now a celebration of all children. Families fly koinobori banners in the shape of a carp (a type of fish) for each child in their house. Until 1948, May 5 was called Tango no sekku and only honored boys...but for many families, May 5th still centers on boys!

May 1st, or “May Day” is Lei Day in Hawaii. Lei Day is a day dedicated to celebrate and recognize the custom of giving and receiving lei and lei are symbolic of Hawaii and aloha.

Some of the leis on display at today's Lei Day festivities at Queen Kapi`olani Park in Waikiki.
