Flame On! (Day 43)

Img_1367copy

Oh....nice, my dinner is on fire...

R and I decided to have an early V-day dinner tonight at Tanaka of Tokyo. The chef cooks right at the table and one of their many tricks is the "onion volcano". He creates this by stacking onion rings of decreasing sizes, then squirting oil into the stack & lighting it. The flames shooting out of the top are pretty impressive; my photo hardly does it justice! I just wished the chef cooking at our table was a bit more talkative and entertaining. And when he did talk...it was just too soft. The food tasted good despite his lack of energy!

Remember (Day 40)

Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the Ehime Maru tragedy. On February 9, 2001, nine boys and men lost their lives when a Navy submarine surfaced beneath and rammed their Japanese fishing vessel; the Ehime Maru.

that were video recording the lion dance at one of the stores at Waikiki Beach Walk.

It was another day of Chinese New Year festivities...first at Ala Moana Center with several lion dance troupes performing at centerstage and later in the day, ventured into Waikiki for another round of traditional lion dance by Lung Kong Physical Culture Club at Waikiki Beach Walk.

I think I might be all "lion-danced" out! I've seen/heard enough to last until next CNY! LOL...

The Punahou Carnival is back!

Punahou Carnival brings you ono food, great rides and games for all ages, art, music, goodies and of course, HOT malasadas. This year's theme is "The Carnival Before Time: A Prehistoric Paradise" and is sponsored by the Punahou School junior class, with proceeds benefiting the institution's financial-aid program and student activities.

Acrobatic Lion Dance (Day 34)

Finally it's Day 1 of the Lunar New Year in Honolulu. Today, I wore a red top, I ate longevity noodles for lunch and to end the workday, I watched these guys do their thing! It was very impressive and I never get tired of seeing how these lion dancers manipulate the head and tail of a Chinese dancing lion while jumping from pole to pole! I am also sure these lion dance performers practice for hours and hours in order to understand and master these performances.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Sun Nien Fai Lok! Wishing you the five-fold happiness’s of luck, prosperity, longevity, health, and wealth for this Year of the Rabbit!  You don’t have to be Chinese to celebrate Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is a time of renewal, reflection, and optimism. It’s a celebration to clear away the old and welcome the new. By looking forward with optimism, generosity, and laughter we invite good luck. And, who doesn’t need a dose of that these days?

Fortune and Good Luck (Day 33)

Lucky character on Hello Kitty is "FOOK", or fortune and tangerines are symbolic of good luck!

Family, friends and relatives are celebrating the first day of the Chinese New Year today since it is already February 3rd in Malaysia. I have to wait one more day to officially celebrate it together with the Hubster.

恭喜发财
