Great Aloha Run (Day 52)

Img_3078_copy
Thousands of residents and visitors took to the streets of Honolulu as part of the 8.1 miles Great Aloha Run between Aloha Tower and Aloha Stadium today.

I didn't run or walk it but was there to cheer on my friend who's running it for the first time. She did great and am so proud of her! Congratulations to her and all the other finishers!

Chap Goh Meh (Day 48)

In Malaysia, Chap Goh Meh (in Hokkien dialect, translated as the "fifteenth night") is celebrated on the 15th day after Chinese New Year, the finale of the Lunar New Year celebration period. That day was yesterday and since I'm not in Malaysia, that final day for me is today! It is also celebrated as the Chinese Valentine’s Day, where young maidens practise the tradition (supposedly originating from Penang), of throwing mandarin oranges into the water in hope that they will be found by their true love. And Chap Goh Meh is sometimes also known as the "Lantern Festival".

Oh, how I miss not being in Malaysia right now...

Ukulele Sunday! (Day 44)

I've been anxious for the last couple days. Woke up today to some "temporary" good news! More on that on a another post...soonish.

Then, I got ready to head down to Kaka'ako Waterfront Park to check out the third annual Ukulele Picnic. Ukulele virtuosos and legends from Hawaii and Japan performed on the hilltop stage overlooking Diamond Head, Honolulu Harbor, the ocean and mountains. There was also exhibitors showing ukulele related exhibits, a wide variety of merchandise and food vendors selling really delicious food and refreshments. To read more about this picnic, check its website Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii

It was a beatiful day to be outdoors but just a little too hot for me. More photos from the picnic to share on my flickr account later tonight!
