Grapes of Yelp

Tonight, I had the honor of attending my very first Yelp Elite event which was hosted at Wine the Experience where we got to sample four different types of wines (enjoyed both the Petit-Verdot & Pomegranate Zinfandel very much...I enjoyed it so much that I picked up a bottle of the zinfandel on the way out), learned how to bottle the wine and eat yummilicious Indian pupus catered by India Cafe. I had a good time and it was nice to meet our gracious host; Emi, in person.

pet peeve

I have all sorts of pet peeves when it comes to driving and traffic on Oahu but the one (or two) that BUGS the hell out of me most is how the other person next to my car parks and/or how tiny some parking stalls are (that even a compact car can't FIT).

I am a bit on the OCD side...when I park - this is how I do it:

  • I always park within the marked stall and making sure my tires are NOT on the lines.
  • IMHO it's easier and I do a better job at reverse parking my car than front in first. Plus there's no hassle when I'm ready to leave my stall.
  • I always make sure I have equal space/distance between my car on either sides so that the drivers next to me can get into their vehicles without doing fancy acrobatics.
  • I straighten out until I park as straight as I can!
  • and I prefer to park my car in a stall that is NOT small or limited!

Then, you have those (pardon my french) that park like a total DICKH3AD:

  • A selfish idiot who takes up two stalls or two spaces on the street.
  • Idiots who cannot park straight or bother to straighten out.
  • Inconsiderate jerks who park ummm...a little too close and you know the jerk squeeze in knowing his/her vehicle won't fit the marked stall. Plus there is no way in HELL either one of us can enter and exit our vehicles now without hitting each others cars'. Jerk, how do you expect me to get out of here, anyway?
  • There is a reason why these stalls are reserved for COMPACT CARS - thus the signage!

Grrr...I'm pissed of because I found another "ding" on my car door!

Maybe you don't care about the way you park, maybe you just don't like other human beings—whatever the case may be—there is no classification for you and we've lost hope. Take a look at the other violations and you may learn a thing or two about parking "not-so-much-like-an-a$$hole".

cupcakes anyone?

Img_9610
Just got back from Shokudo Restaurant after an hour or so of frosting and decorating cupcakes. It was not easy, there was so many color selections, candy, sprinkles and I was having a major creativity block!  What do you think? I have them resting comfortably in the fridge so Ryan and I have eat them later as desserts (and not the ANTS in my apartment). He hasn't seen them since he's at work but I'm sure he'll eat it since I frosted and decorated it (that's why there's so much BLUE...it's his favorite color) myself, right...RIGHT? Nevertheless, I had a great time amongst the other tweet peeps and big thanks to @Shokudo for extending the invite to let me be a part of their Mother's Day Cupcake Studio preview ^_^

31 cent scoop night

Img_7849

Yup....you heard right! Today, Baskin Robbins offered "31 cent scoop night," where you can get up to three scoops for less than $1. I made a dash for the store in Waikiki (inside Sheraton Waikiki hotel) after work in hopes there were no crazy long lines and with luck...NO LINES! In fact, there were only about six people (including myself) as I perused to see what flavors they carried. My three chosen flavors ~ Verry Berry Strawberry, Pineapple Coconut and Vanilla Pomegranate on a waffle cone. What a treat!

bodybuilding competition

Last Friday night, I was at the Pacific Beach Hotel to see and support a friend as she competed in the Stingrey Classic ~ a bodybuilding competition. It was my first time to such a competition and what an fun experience. Although I wasn't quite expecting the long hours...it was well worth the wait to cheer on a dear friend and also for some eye candy. I admit I don't really fancy all that muscle and extra tan but some of the guys (and even the girls) were cute and had interesting ink work! At the same time, it wasn't easy trying to capture these bodies on camera as I had all these tall heads in front of me but I tried my best. Here's a preview. More to share on my flickr shortly...

how was your weekend?

This past weekend was simply blissful. After a rough work week...it was nice to chill and have some fun with Hubby. It's been several months since he's had both days off the weekend so making the moments count both Saturday and Sunday was somewhat important and eventful! We spend most of Saturday in Waikiki...first a brief visit to the zoo and then the rest of the day for the Spam Jam event. Sunday was more relaxing where we slept in and clean house. We didn't get much cleaning done so I hope to continue during the week...

to shop or not to shop

Working so close to Ala Moana Shopping Center has its pros and cons. Today, instead of finding food to eat during my lunch hour, I went shopping instead. A good idea? I can't tell if shopping is a pro or con in this situation :P

I always tell myself I don't need another pair of jeans or tee-top as I'm running out of closet space but I can't pass up when a store has a SALE! My initial intention is just to browse...if I find something, great! If I don't, meh...more $$$ in the bank! Today I found a few items (some even from the children's department...) and I paid $30 for everything! I may just go back again tomorrow as one hour isn't long enough to peruse the whole store.

Honolulu Festival

Img_3814

What a fun weekend it has been! Thank goodness for awesome weather with lots of sunshine and cool breeze! It was good fun as usual to be able to see and experience all the many different cultural exhibits, arts and music performed by people from countries throughout the Pacific Rim ~ Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Canada, Alaska and even Hawaii. It wasn't easy to catch everything as there were four different staging locations and then the festival concludes with a parade through Waikiki.

Ryan and I also had the opportunity to attend the "Friendship Gala" and taste sample great food by Honolulu's popular restaurants ~ Roy's, Alan Wong's, Nobu Waikiki, Ruth Chris, Wolfgang's Steak House, Hakone, Satura Cakes and much more. Pictures from the festival to follow soon once I am able to sort them through.

have children right now

Now that R and I have gotten married...quite a handful of friends, relatives and even co-workers have been asking us "so, when are you going to have a baby?" That's pressure! And we've only been married for less than 3 months. Funny thing is that my mom and MIL haven't asked and may be keeping it to themselves, even though I KNOW they are so ready for grandchildren.

I'm turning 34 this year, and I know the clock is ticking, those ovaries are turning into prunes as I type this. Guys are lucky in this, that they never have to worry about it! They can have kids when they are 80 years old. Ugh. We're both ready to have kids...we've talked about it and even have names picked out! He wants a big family and I'm comfortable with whatever I can pop out! 2 is perfect...a boy and a girl...and if I have twins on the first try...that's even more awesome! But then again, I also want to spend more time together as a couple, traveling and enjoying opportunities that you won't really have anymore after kids. Is that being selfish?
