A Tall Tree (Day 6)

Img_2838_copy

There are taller trees, I know but I like this one! Just a few days ago, I noticed its pretty pink blossoms (though you can't really see from this photo). It's quite comforting to the body and mind, as I take a deep breath, relax and exhale...before I armed our car and head up to the apartment to tend to the husband.

One day when we have our own yard...I want tall trees like this. Filled with pretty blossoms and/or delicious fruits (lychee, mangoes, DURIAN)...

Bento Lunch (Day 5)

I can't remember what I was doing on the computer when the power went out just before 11 in the morning at the office.

It was almost close to lunch time but strangely...I wasn't hungry yet. So my co-worker and I decided to lock up and walk down 11 flight of stairs to run errands in hopes the power will turn back on when we were done. First, I went to 2 separate banks to make a withdrawal first, then a deposit after. Still not hungry, so I walked around Ala Moana center for a bit before venturing inside Victoria's Secret. They were having the SEMI ANNUAL SALE...and walked out an hour later with two bags of awesome discounted goodies!!!

Happy and a little broke, now I'm hungry. Walked into Nijiya Market and picked up a "sweet and sour chicken bento" as pictured above for lunch. While eating, co-worker called and said still no power (two hours later...) and she was going home. I called my boss, and he said to go home too.

Sunset (Day 4)

My first (but not last...) sunset for 2011.

My favorite time of the day is at sunset...it always makes me smile and it kinda brings the day to an end for me. And I just love seeing what colors the sky can produce!

What's your favorite time of the day?

In the Sky (Day 2)

The weekend went by too fast!!! It's time to say good bye and head back home to Honolulu. We flew to Maui on New Year's eve to ring in the new year with his parents as well as to pop all the fireworks he'd brought the day after Christmas. I'd wished we could have stayed longer on Maui but the mister had to report back for work this afternoon.

Ozoni Soup (Day 1)

Img_0667-2

Happy 2011! A new year is a key time to start a new project... and I have decided to post a photo for each day of the year. I'd meant to start earlier but figured it would have been best to wait until...January first!

My first photo is the ozoni soup my husband's mom made for breakfast today. I'm told that it is a mandatory first meal offering on New Year’s Day for all, if not most Japanese families and it is supposed to bring good luck! There is no one set recipe, and the ingredients will vary and made differently by every family. The ingredients can include chicken, gobo root, kamaboko, green onion, soy sauce and mochi rice cakes. I admit I didn't like it when I tried it for the first time back in 2003 but have grown to love this healthy and delicious dish. It's not New Year's without it!!!

time to reflect...

...It’s that time of year again. A new year where one look towards the future while reflecting upon the past. I am not one who usually makes New Year's resolutions, for I invariable break them — sometimes before I can write them down. This year, however, I've decided to make my list and I believe I am able to actually do it for 2011;

  1. Stop Overspending: Who does not love to shop? This one will be tough but I promise to stop overspending and start living within my means. I want to genuinely manage and get out of debt and then save money for a rainy day!
  2. Indulge in Moderation: I love to eat and drink...no doubt. I won't say I'll quit eating junk food or not have a sip of alcohol. I'll definitely break it. Instead I promise to indulge in moderation for a more realistic approach to healthier eating.
  3. Get More Sleep: I admit I'm a night owl. I wake up every single morning of my life groggy and soft-headed. I do not find every morning fantastically beautiful – many of them are gray and cold and not at all inspiring. But I'm getting older and I admit I should be getting more sleep. It will certainly require some effort on my part but I promise to get more sleep and I think my body and mind will thank me and appreciate the extra Zs.
  4. Floss Regularly: I promise to floss my teeth and gums regularly!
  5. Do Exercises that Make Me Happy: I've talked and talked and talked about exercising since 2008...then, to get my body in shape for the wedding but I never DID! This past year was a flop too. I promise to do exercises that make me happy that will more likely have me exercising regularly and see weight loss results.
  6. Recycle: I promise to recycle plastic, paper, glass, aluminum and other recyclable products in order to do something good for the environment.
  7. Give More Affection: I am affectionate but I tend to throw tantrums now and then, especially towards the husband. I promise to be less grumpy, crabby and moody and give more affection every day. A smile, give more hugs, kind words...it's not too terribly hard to show affection to those I care about, right?

I also like to become more organized, get pregnant, share a photo every day for a year and hopefully take a trip or two to visit home and/or a new destination.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou - Happy New Year and I wish you all the best in 2011. Have a good weekend everyone! :D

xoxo

Saturday

After a storm...today was a pleasant day! The warm rays did my skin some good after being couped up in a freezer box of an office all week! First stop was at the post office to drop off a package with presents for my family back home in Malaysia. Crossing my fingers they'll get it before Christmas since I kinda missed the international mailout deadline. Then, I went to Waikiki to kill some time before heading over to Aloha Tower for the Christmas boat parade.

Just in time for the sunset and some early birds reserving their spot for the boat parade.

Headache!

Img_3234

It's my favorite time of the year but the thought of holiday shopping has/is giving me a headache! It seems to get harder each year and despite having a list...it still isn't easy. I even meant to get most of my holiday shopping done on Black Friday but no such luck since I manage to buy shtuffs only for me. My list...I have my list of names but only a select few have actual gifts written down next to the name. So here I am, still browsing around for gift ideas and hoping to find something for those peoples. Trying to not procrastinate and shop last minute but it seems to happen every year. Good grief!!!

Plus, I need to coordinate with the Hubs around his crazy non-stop work schedule for a potential holiday photo...
